SpiroConnect Calibration Verification Check Process
To perform a calibration verification check, which ensures the SpiroConnect is still operating as calibrated, you will need to conduct three tests, consisting of emptying and filling their 3-litre syringe through an upside-down SpiroConnect connected to a 3-litre syringe. The first test is slow flow, then medium flow, and finally fast flow. As per the guidelines from ARTP, ERS and ATS, a device will pass if the error margin over the 3 flow rates is +/- 3% of litres. Follow the steps below.
- Insert the serial-numbered dongle into a spare USB port on the PC

- Ensure your SpiroConnect is attached to the syringe upside down with a good air-tight connection. You may need to use a MicroGard filter adapter and/or a silicone sleeve adapter to get a good connection.

- Open SpiroConnect Data Manager from your desktop

- Turn your device on, ensuring that it shows as connected in the bottom left-hand corner, and then click the Calibration Check button.

- Fill the syringe with air, making sure the plunger is pulled all the way out and then click
in the bottom right-hand corner.
- We start with the slow flow, so with a smooth, steady and slow motion, empty the syringe of air, pause for just a couple of seconds before filling the syringe back up. You need to keep the graph inside the green bands. Once complete, your slow flow measured volumes will be in the yellow banner at the top of the window.

- If you are happy with the measured values and your technique, you can click
or if you are unhappy with the measured values or technique, click
.
- Repeat the process in steps 6 and 7 for the medium flow

- Once you've performed the fast flow manoeuvre, if you are happy, you will need to click
or
if you are unhappy.

- Your results will then appear
- If less than 1% error margin, you will need to click OK:

If greater than 1% but less than 3% error, the customer should always click Don't update:
If greater than 3% but less than 6% error, always click Try again. If the SpiroConnect fails repeatedly, contact Numed support:
If greater than 6% error but less than 14PPL (Pulses Per Litre) change, always click Try again. If the SpiroConnect fails repeatedly, contact Numed support:
If greater than 14PPL (Pulses Per Litre) change, contact Numed support:
- If the device passes its calibration check, you can print a paper copy of the report if required. A passed calibration check report should always say Calibration OK, Calibration Factor was NOT updated.

If you have any issues with your calibration verification or need to report that your device is failing calibration verification, please contact Numed support via the live chat on this page.
