Cleaning Guide for Schiller MS-12 ECG Machine

Important Safety Information

  1. Do not immerse the device or accessories in liquid.
  2. Do not sterilise using hot water, steam, hot air, or an autoclave.
  3. Avoid cleaning products that contain strong acids or chemicals that may damage plastic.
  4. Always follow the manufacturer’s dilution instructions for cleaning solutions.
  5. Never use ethyl alcohol, ethanol, acetone, hexane, or abrasive cleaners.
  6. Do not spray cleaning solution directly onto the device.
  7. Ensure no liquid enters connectors or openings.
  8. Avoid pulling or stressing patient cables. 
  9. Wearing protective gloves is recommended.

General Cleaning Instructions

Clean the MS-12 USB ECG Recorder and its cables with a damp, not wet, cloth. A mild cleaner or 50% isopropyl alcohol may be used for fingerprints or grease.
  1. MS-12 Unit

    1. Wipe the device with a slightly damp cloth using a cleaning solution approved for use.
    2. Remove any extra liquid to prevent pooling.
    3. Make sure liquid does not enter any connectors or seams.
    4. If liquid gets inside a connector, dry it with warm air and check that the device works properly afterwards.
  2. Cleaning Cable Assemblies

    1. Check the cable for damage before cleaning.
    2. Wipe the cable using a cloth slightly moistened with an approved cleaner.
    3. Clean the cable in short 20 cm sections to avoid bending or bunching the insulation.
    4. Avoid letting liquid enter the connectors.
    5. If liquid enters a connector, dry gently with warm air.

Approved Cleaning Solutions

  1. 50% isopropyl alcohol
  2. Mild neutral detergent
  3. Plastic-safe cleaning products

Solutions That Must NOT Be Used

  1. Ethyl alcohol
  2. Acetone
  3. Hexane
  4. Abrasive powders or cleaners
  5. Products that can dissolve plastic

Disinfection Instructions

Use disinfectants suitable for clinical environments. Apply disinfectant using the same method as cleaning—using a damp cloth and ensuring no liquid enters the device.

Approved Disinfectants

  1. Isopropyl alcohol (50%)
  2. Propanol (35%)
  3. Ethyl hexanal
  4. Aldehyde (2–4%)
  5. Ethanol (50%)
  6. Products are safe for PC/ABS plastic

  1. Bacillol 30 Tissues
  2. Bacillol 30 Foam
  3. Mikrozid liquid
  4. Mikrozid wipes

Disinfectants That Must NOT Be Used

  1. Organic solvents
  2. Ammonia-based detergents
  3. Abrasive cleaning agents
  4. 100% alcohol, Virex, Sani‑Master
  5. Sani-Cloth, Ascepti, Clorox wipes
  6. HB Quat
  7. Household cleaners (Fantastic, Tilex)
  8. Conductive solutions
  9. Acetone, ammonium chloride, Betadine, chlorine/wax products, ketone, sodium salts
